What is the Child Dental Benefit Scheme?
The Child Dental Benefit Schedule is an Australian government initiative that provides eligible children with access to free dental treatment from ages 2 to 17.
Free Children’s Dental: $1132 dollars are available every 2 calendar years to be used towards dental treatment – completely bulked billed to Medicare for you at Dental on Gregory.
Who is eligible for free dental treatment?
For example, this means if your child is turning 2 years old in November, 2025, they will be eligible for treatment from the beginning of the same year (1st of January).
Note: Eligibility is means tested and based on the guardian/s' tax return - if you are not eligible but you think you are should be, Medicare may require your up-to-date tax return to be submitted.
What dental services are covered?
The scheme covers a range of services including all preventive treatment, such as check up and cleans, x-rays, fissure sealants and fluoride applications. It also covers necessary restorative work, such as fillings, root canal treatment and extractions too – ensuring comprehensive care for your child’s dental health.
How do I apply for the scheme?
Eligibility is automatically assessed by Medicare, and you will usually be notified if your child qualifies for the scheme. No separate application is needed.
Unsure if your child is eligible? Our reception team are more than happy to check for you prior to your appointment by using your child’s Medicare card number.
Can I use the scheme at any dentist?
No – The scheme can only be used at participating dental clinics like Dental On Gregory, where we offer specialized care for children. Not all dental clinics are participating in this scheme, and some may not provide bulk billing services.
Not eligible for the CDBS?
Dental on Gregory accepts all health funds and private paying patients, and are preferred providers for a large selection of health insurances. Most health insurers with Family cover will provide rebates for the whole family, including children.
